American Football in Italy

Milano Seamen have won past three Italian Super Bowls

American football is played around the world.  Although not as popular as it is in the United States, the sport has grown over the years.  In Italy, the Federazione Italiana di American Football is the country's version of the National Football League (NFL).  The league was founded in 2008 and currently has seven teams playing in a season which kicked off in March and will end with the Italian Super Bowl on July 17.

A total of seven teams will compete for the Italian title including defending champions the Milano Seamen, Ancona Dolphins, Lazio Ducks, Firenze Guelfi, Parma Panthers , Milano Rhinos, and the Bologna Warriors.  The teams play in the First Division which is the highest level while 17 teams compete in Italy's Second Division.

Milano are the current defending Italian Bowl champions having won five of the last six Italian Bowl titles.  The Seamen are currently in second place at 4-1 behind the league-leading Parma Panthers (5-0).  Parma opened the season with a 24-20 win over Milano and have not given up their lead with one more game left in the regular season.  After dropping the opening game of the season, Milano have been on a roll with four straight wins including a 55-30 win over their crosstown rivals, Rhinos last week.
