Premier Lacrosse League Begins New Season


The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) opens their fifth season this weekend in Albany, New York as the league's eight teams return to action.

The PLL is a men's professional lacrosse league based in the United States. PLL is made up of eight teams featuring lacrosse players from around the world. Former professional lacrosse player Paul Rabil founded PLL with his brother Mike Rabil in 2018.

This could be a pivotal season for the PLL as the league plans to move to a city-based team for the league in 2024 instead of the tour-based concept the league has used.

The teams are:  Archers, Atlas, Cannons, Chaos, Chrome, Redwoods, Waterdogs and Whipsnakes.

The Waterdogs are the defending PLL champions.

Here is the schedule for 2023:

  • June 3-4 at Albany, New York
  • June 9-10 at Charlotte, North Carolina
  • June 16-17 at Columbus, Ohio
  • July 8-9 at Minneapolis, Minnesota
  • July 14-15 at Fairfield, Connecticut
  • July 22 at Louisville, Kentucky
  • July 29-30 at Dallas, Texas
  • August 5-6 at Baltimore, Maryland
  • August 11-12 at Denver, Colorado
  • August 18-19 at Seattle, Washington
  • August 25-26 at Salt Lake City, Utah
  • September 4 (Playoffs) at Boston, Massachusetts
  • September 10 (Playoffs) at Long Island, New York
  • September 24 (Championship) at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The 2023 PLL season schedule will include 16 games on ESPN linear platforms - ABC (8), ESPN (2), and ESPN2 (6), with all 48 games to be streamed live on ESPN+.  In addition to opening weekend, ESPN will televise the 2023 PLL All-Star Game on Saturday, July 22 at 8 p.m. The 2023 Championship is set for ABC at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24.

The Union Hockey League (UHL) which is a senior "A" semi-pro hockey league representing the Midwest and Northeast, will begin their 2023-2024 season this month with eight teams.   The UHL is hybrid league, a mix between semi-professional hockey and senior hockey, with players being compensated for travel and other expenses via a ticket sales split but allowing them to retain their amateur status. Players can also make a substantial commission by selling season tickets and partnerships. Each team will be playing a 32-game season, with two tournaments against other senior leagues in the works to bring the season total up to 40. Chihuahua Savage Repeat as MASL Champions

With all of the attention on Monterrey with their undefeated regular season record, it was the Chihuahua Savage which took the spotlight as they completed a sweep of the Kansas City Comets in the Ron Newman Cup final. With the score tied at 4-4 with 1:20 left, Hugo Puentes took the ball to the left side of the goal and in a half-turn, scored for the 5-4 game winner and series clincher for the Savage and repeat as Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) champions. The Savage also won a thriller in the first game of the series in Kansas City 4-3.  The Comets lead 3-1 but Chihuahua overcame that deficit with goals from Roberto Escalante and Puentes.  Escalante notched the game-winner with 3:44 left. Chihuahua swept the Baltimore Blast in last year's final. Winter Indoor Football League Schedule Set

The new Winter Indoor Football League has posted their 2024 schedule on their Facebook page as five teams will participate in the league's first season.  The schedule runs from October 26th to the championship game on December 21st.   The teams include the Ohio Blitz, Pittsburgh Outlaws, New York Nightmare, UP1 Athletic Showcase (Suwanee, GA) and Eastern Shore.
