Birmingham Stallions Repeat As USFL Champions
The Birmingham Stallions won their second straight title since the rebirth of the United States Football League (USFL) with a 28-12 win over the Pittsburgh Maulers Saturday night in Canton, Ohio. In two seasons the Stallions have posted a record of 21-3 to dominate the spring league.
Birmingham quarterback Alex McGough led the way for Birmingham with four touchdown passes and added 64 yards on the ground. Deon Cain had four catches for 70 yards and three touchdowns in the game and was awarded the game's Most Valuable Player.
Pittsburgh struck first with an early field goal to take a 3-0 lead but the Stallions responded to take a 7-3 lead and never trailed again as they took a 14-9 lead into the locker room at halftime. Pittsburgh's offense could only manage four field goals from kicker Chris Blewitt.
