New York Empire Strikes Back, Repeats As AUDL Champions


Over the past two seasons, the New York Empire have dominated the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL) and they continued their domination over the weekend in Minneapolis defeating the Salt Lake Shred 19-12 to repeat as champions.  The Empire have now won 30 straight games.

In the semifinals, the Empire blasted the Austin Sol 27-17.

Union Hockey League Begins 2023-2024 Season

The Union Hockey League (UHL) which is a senior "A" semi-pro hockey league representing the Midwest and Northeast, will begin their 2023-2024 season this month with eight teams.   The UHL is hybrid league, a mix between semi-professional hockey and senior hockey, with players being compensated for travel and other expenses via a ticket sales split but allowing them to retain their amateur status. Players can also make a substantial commission by selling season tickets and partnerships. Each team will be playing a 32-game season, with two tournaments against other senior leagues in the works to bring the season total up to 40. Winter Indoor Football League Schedule Set

The new Winter Indoor Football League has posted their 2024 schedule on their Facebook page as five teams will participate in the league's first season.  The schedule runs from October 26th to the championship game on December 21st.   The teams include the Ohio Blitz, Pittsburgh Outlaws, New York Nightmare, UP1 Athletic Showcase (Suwanee, GA) and Eastern Shore.

Chihuahua Savage Repeat as MASL Champions

With all of the attention on Monterrey with their undefeated regular season record, it was the Chihuahua Savage which took the spotlight as they completed a sweep of the Kansas City Comets in the Ron Newman Cup final. With the score tied at 4-4 with 1:20 left, Hugo Puentes took the ball to the left side of the goal and in a half-turn, scored for the 5-4 game winner and series clincher for the Savage and repeat as Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) champions. The Savage also won a thriller in the first game of the series in Kansas City 4-3.  The Comets lead 3-1 but Chihuahua overcame that deficit with goals from Roberto Escalante and Puentes.  Escalante notched the game-winner with 3:44 left. Chihuahua swept the Baltimore Blast in last year's final.
