Semi-Pro Football News


Several of the semi-pro football summer leagues are winding down their seasons. I have a collected some results and news of a few over the past weeks. Unfortunately, I am not always able to find game stories or scores.  

Mid Central Football League
The Kentucky Pirates won the 2A title over the Southern Indiana Bobcats (Could not locate a final score on this one.)  In the 3A title game, the Indy Bison defeated the Illinois Grizzlies 40-6.

Players Football Assocation
The Motor City Rams won the 3A National Midwest PFA Title.  The Northern Kentucky Wolf Pack defeated the Flag City Phantoms 30-7 last month to claim the 2A National Midwest Championship.

Blue Collar Football League
Cincinnati Dukes repeated at league champions. The Dukes defeated the Columbus Gladiators 32-6.

Central Midwest Football League
Joplin Crusaders also repeated as league champions when they defeated the Missouri Cyclones.

East Coast Football League
The Southern New England Admirals have won 30 straight and currently 8-0 in the standings.

Union Hockey League Begins 2023-2024 Season

The Union Hockey League (UHL) which is a senior "A" semi-pro hockey league representing the Midwest and Northeast, will begin their 2023-2024 season this month with eight teams.   The UHL is hybrid league, a mix between semi-professional hockey and senior hockey, with players being compensated for travel and other expenses via a ticket sales split but allowing them to retain their amateur status. Players can also make a substantial commission by selling season tickets and partnerships. Each team will be playing a 32-game season, with two tournaments against other senior leagues in the works to bring the season total up to 40. Indoor Football Scoreboard - 3/27/24

Three leagues have started their seasons. Chihuahua Savage Repeat as MASL Champions

With all of the attention on Monterrey with their undefeated regular season record, it was the Chihuahua Savage which took the spotlight as they completed a sweep of the Kansas City Comets in the Ron Newman Cup final. With the score tied at 4-4 with 1:20 left, Hugo Puentes took the ball to the left side of the goal and in a half-turn, scored for the 5-4 game winner and series clincher for the Savage and repeat as Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) champions. The Savage also won a thriller in the first game of the series in Kansas City 4-3.  The Comets lead 3-1 but Chihuahua overcame that deficit with goals from Roberto Escalante and Puentes.  Escalante notched the game-winner with 3:44 left. Chihuahua swept the Baltimore Blast in last year's final. The Savage finished the regular season 16-7-1 and second place behind the San Diego Sockers in the Western Conference.  They lost the first game of the playoffs to the Tacoma Stars but then won the next two at home to advance to the confer
