What Happened to the Professional Cuesports League?
Another attempt to create a professional pool league racked them up with the Professional Cuesports League (PCL) which was a new league focused on revamping the sport of billiards.
The league debuted in 2023 with the best women and men players in the world including Allison Fisher, Jennifer Barretta, Johnny Archer and Fedor Gorst among others.
Some of the unique innovations of the PCL game included:
- The game is played with nine billiard balls of three different colors: purple (4), orange (4) and black (1)
- Timed games. A player continues their turn until they fail to legally pocket a ball or commit a foul. Each game is timed at 15 minutes with a 24-second shot clock in place to limit stalling.
- Scoring. The objective of the game is to reach 30 points by pocketing balls in a specific order: purple, orange and black. Each legally pocketed purple ball is worth one point, orange is two points and black is three.
Although ESPN 8 shows old matches on the channel, I was unable to find any current news on the PCL website or other social media platforms since 2024.
